Summary:  2009 Ghostly Gathering

November 2, 2009

The JETS had a great meet at the Ghostly Gathering.  The parents did an exceptional job, as always, hosting a very smooth and fun meet and the kids swam very well.  We had 95 kids compete and 94 achieved at least one best time, with a total of 70% of our swims being personal best times.  The team as a whole dropped over 28 minutes off our best times.  All those time drops really add up!  I'm sorry I had to miss the meet on Saturday, but apparently there was a hobo who came in and coached the team for free food.  That worked out nicely.  Congratulations to all our new swimmers who competed in their first meet, or in new events.  Great job to all!

YMCA Values Award

The following swimmer(s) were voted by the coaches to have exemplified the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility throughout the course of the swim meet:

Michelle Dundek

Michelle was voted by the coaches for the Y Values Award for the Ghostly Gathering for her efforts to help some newer swimmers through the swim meet process.  She helped her teammates find their heat and lane assignments and talked with them before and after some of their races to cheer them up and cheer them on.

Regan Sandberg

Regan was also voted by the coaches as a Y Values Award winner because she stayed throughout the meet, even after she was done swimming, to cheer on the kids in the second session.  She also helped as a counter for some of the kids during their 500 race.  Great team spirit!

Top Droppers

The following swimmers improved their personal best times throughout the course of the meet by more than any other swimmer in their practice group:

Red:  Anthony Sims (dropped 61.84 seconds)

Yellow 2:  Ryanne Gorman (dropped 17.35 seconds)
