PICTURES / VIDEO

I flew in this morning and headed to the pool for a course I needed to take.  You can view a couple pictures of the pool on the right.  Within 10 feet of the outside door, the chlorine air smacks you in the face and makes your nose and eyes start to burn.  I had forgotten that sensation.  It's really something you have to get used to because it makes you feel a little sick at first.  My eyes and throat are still burning a bit right now.  I had some time before my course started, so I hit the warmdown pool and swam for about an hour.  There is an 8-lane 50 meter competition pool and an 8-lane 25 yard warmdown pool.  The warmdown pool felt like it was about 84-85 degrees, though the competition pool is kept much cooler, around 80 or a little lower.  The pool is open pretty much the entire day, so the place stays bustling with teams coming in and out to put in their daily workouts.

After my course, I helped out with team registration.  I volunteer as a National YMCA Group Representative for the IL/MO/WI/KS region, so I'm expected to help out here and there.  I helped put wristbands on kids as they registered....that was a very captivating 3.5 hours!  Actually I enjoy interacting with the kids.  Some teams come in looking unified, with everyone wearing the same shirt and same colored shorts, while other teams come in wearing all different street clothes and you can't even tell which team they swim for.  Some kids seem really nervous and uptight, while others are very loose and smiling.

After registration, I grabbed dinner with the Y folks and caught up with the Hebbard and Shepherd family at the hotel when I got back...I didn't expect them until tomorrow morning.

Not a very exciting day, but tomorrow, Ben, Murphy, and Keegan will register and we'll hit the pool for the first time, shave down at the hotel and then head to Annapolis for a team dinner.  The meet starts on Tuesday with all three boys competing in an event.
