Who We Are

About the JETS

The Joliet Y Jets Swim Team is a year-round program that offers instruction and training to swimmers ages six and up. We offer several different practice groups that progressively develop skills and accommodate swimmers across many levels, from swimmers just beginning in the sport all the way to National finalists and beyond. We are both a YMCA and USA Swimming club, which means our swimmers get the opportunity to compete in a wide variety of meets. Competition is encouraged, but not required. Likewise, there are no mandatory attendance requirements until swimmers reach our most advanced levels.

To be placed on the beginning level of the team, swimmers must be able to swim freestyle for one length of the pool (25 yards) without stopping while demonstrating the ability to comfortably swim at the surface with arms reaching forward over the water, their face in the water, and taking breaths to the side.  They must also swim 25 yards of backstroke without stopping, showing they are comfortable floating on their back while maintaining a rhythmic, supportive kick.

If swimmers do not meet criteria to be placed on the team, the Joliet YMCA offers a wide range of swim lessons and aquatic programming to develop skills and passion for the pool.
